The Homosassa River has always been the lifeblood of Old Homosassa.
President Grover Cleveland established his "Winter Whitehouse" on
the banks of this pristine river. Artists like Winslow Homer´s 1904 famous watercolors
of the Homosassa River are always on display at the Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park.
David Levy Yulee is credited with cultivating a variety of sweet oranges on his
plantation on Tiger Island in the Homosassa River.
This variety is appropriately named the Homosassa Orange and is
still considered a favorite fruit today.
